Udvartana – Signature Ayurvedic Body Sculpt Program

Udvartana Signature Body Sculpt

Treatment Overview

Udvartana — meaning "upward movement" or "elevation" in Sanskrit — is Ayurveda's signature body sculpting and skin-revitalising therapy using dry or paste-based herbal powders. Our Signature Udvartana Program is an extended 2-hour experience combining full-body Udvartana (herbal powder massage), Nadi Swedan (herbal steam), and a revitalising Shiro Abhyanga (head massage) — targeting stubborn fat, improving skin texture, toning the body, and leaving you feeling energised, light, and radiant.

What Is Udvartana?

Udvartana is a classical Ayurvedic therapy described in the Ashtanga Hridayam and Charaka Samhita as a treatment for obesity (Sthaulya), Kapha disorders, skin conditions, and as a daily beauty practice (Dinacharya). Unlike conventional oil massage, Udvartana uses medicinal herbal powders — such as Triphala, Mustard, Trikatu, Haritaki, and grain flours — applied with firm, vigorous strokes against the direction of hair growth. This directly breaks down subcutaneous fat (Medas), reduces Kapha, exfoliates dead skin cells, and improves lymphatic drainage.

Who Benefits from the Udvartana Signature Program?

  • Stubborn body fat and difficulty losing weight despite exercise
  • Kapha-type body with excess water retention and puffiness
  • Dull, rough, or flaky skin needing deep exfoliation
  • Cellulite reduction and body contouring
  • Sluggish metabolism and Kapha imbalance
  • Poor skin texture after weight loss
  • Those wanting a natural alternative to body scrubs and slimming treatments

What the Udvartana Signature Session Includes

  • Full Body Udvartana (60 min) – Vigorous full-body herbal powder massage with Kapha-reducing herb combinations applied against hair growth direction — stimulating fat breakdown, exfoliating skin, and improving Agni (metabolic fire) at the tissue level
  • Nadi Swedan (25 min) – Herbal steam immediately after Udvartana to flush fat-soluble toxins released during the massage and amplify the metabolic effect
  • Shiro Abhyanga (20 min) – Head and scalp oil massage to balance the stimulating effect of Udvartana and provide a calming finish to the session

The herbal powder formulation is customised based on your Prakriti and primary concern — dry Udvartana (Ruksha) for maximum fat reduction and Kapha excess, or paste-based Udvartana (Snigdha) for those with dry skin requiring simultaneous nourishment. Post-session, the skin feels remarkably smooth, the body feels light, and circulation is visibly improved.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Is Udvartana painful?
Udvartana involves firm, vigorous massage and may feel more intense than oil massage. It should not be painful — pressure is always adjusted to patient comfort. Most patients describe it as invigorating and stimulating rather than painful.
  • How is this Udvartana different from the individual therapy?
The Signature Udvartana Program is an extended experience adding Nadi Swedan and Shiro Abhyanga to the standard Udvartana therapy — creating a more complete treatment that maximises fat reduction, toxin elimination, and skin results in one session.
  • How often should I take the Udvartana Signature Program?
For weight management, weekly sessions are recommended. For skin exfoliation and maintenance, once every 2 weeks is adequate. Best results appear with a consistent course of 8–12 sessions.
  • Is Udvartana suitable for dry skin?
For dry skin or Vata constitution, a Snigdha (paste-based) Udvartana using gram flour and milk is used — providing exfoliation while also nourishing dry skin rather than drying it further.
  • Who should avoid Udvartana?
Pregnant women, those with active skin infections or wounds, patients with severe anaemia, or those in very weakened health should avoid Udvartana. The physician assesses suitability during consultation.
