What Is Acidity?
Acidity occurs when excess stomach acid flows back into the food pipe, causing irritation and discomfort. In Ayurveda, this condition is known as Amlapitta and is primarily caused by aggravated Pitta dosha. The treatment focuses on balancing internal heat, strengthening digestive fire (Agni), and eliminating accumulated toxins (Ama) rather than just suppressing acid temporarily.
Causes of Acidity
- Excess Pitta dosha imbalance
- Irregular eating patterns and meal-skipping
- Spicy, oily, fried, or acidic foods
- Excess tea, coffee, or alcohol
- Chronic stress and mental anxiety
- Poor digestion and toxin accumulation (Ama)
- Late-night eating and insufficient sleep
Signs and Symptoms
- Burning sensation in chest or stomach
- Sour or bitter belching and heartburn
- Nausea and indigestion
- Bloating and loss of appetite

Ayurvedic Treatment Approach
Ayurvedic treatment for acidity focuses on balancing Pitta dosha, strengthening digestive fire (Agni), reducing stomach inflammation, cooling and soothing the digestive tract, and eliminating toxins from the system.
