What Is Apatarpana?
Apatarpana (meaning "reduction" or "depletion") is one of two primary treatment principles in Ayurveda — the other being Santarpana (nourishment). It refers to therapies that reduce excess accumulation of fat, toxins, and Kapha in the body. Classical Apatarpana includes fasting, light diet, dry massage, steam therapy, and purification procedures. Our Signature Apatarpana program adapts these classical principles into a practical, accessible 2-hour session suitable for regular therapeutic maintenance.
Causes of Excess Accumulation (Why You Need Apatarpana)
- Excess Kapha dosha causing fat, mucus, and toxin buildup
- Weak digestive fire (Mandagni) reducing metabolic efficiency
- Sedentary lifestyle and lack of physical activity
- Excess sweet, oily, heavy, or processed food consumption
- Slow lymphatic drainage and poor blood circulation
- Chronic stress causing hormonal weight gain
- Thyroid or PCOS-related metabolic imbalance
What the Apatarpana Session Includes
- Udwartana (45 min) – Full body dry herbal powder scrub massage using Kapha-reducing herb powders applied against the direction of hair growth to stimulate fat breakdown
- Nadi Swedan (20 min) – Targeted herbal steam therapy to open body channels, flush fat-soluble toxins, and amplify the metabolic effect of the massage
- Physician Consultation – Brief post-session assessment with dietary and lifestyle guidance to extend therapeutic benefit
